Today we live in a society that is more and more affected by technological innovations. Large corporations spend millions of dollars on their Research and Development departments while at the same time innodividual inventors try their best to commit some kind of a groundbreaking research that will make them a fortune. This results in thousands of brand new innovation techniques and devices being introduced to the society on a regular basis. Now most of the people can’t imagine their lives without things like Internet, cellular phones or electricity. It wouldn’t be a mistake to say that we are dependent on those things. Of course, there is no point in arguing that technological innovations make our lives much more comfortable and for some groups of people they provide the opportunities that they would have never had without such technologies. But recently there have been a number of discussions that brought up a question of negative effects of technology on society. Those who support this theory argue that the rapid development of new ways of communications and information technologies have significantly changed the way people think, interact with each other set their life priorities. And from their point of view it hasn’t been a positive change. The example that they most frequently use is the Internet. Modern technology critics say that today a person instead of living a real life lives a virtual one. Personal relations are substituted with online communications and some people have simply forgotten how to deal with people in real life after hours spent chatting on social networks. And this is just a tiny part of all the disadvantages they talk about.

So let’s just take a look at one thing that we can’t imagine our life without. What is it? A mobile phone. Companies like Nokia and Samsung make huge profits manufacturing and selling mobile phones and other companies make even more money providing cellar communication services. Why is that so? Because almost everybody has a cell phone and uses it at least a few times a day. It has become essential to possess such a device. But let’s think carefully about the effects it has on our everyday lives. Of course the advantages of cellular phones are obvious. People now can always stay in touch with each other; in case of an emergency it provides us with a fast way to call the necessary services. Also modern mobile phones include features like Internet access and a built-in camera that might often come in handy. But on the second thought, haven’t we become too dependent on this gadget? Remember yourself when a battery on your cell phone died in an unsuitable situation. I bet you felt stressed out and may be a little helpless. People who are not used to mobile communications would have never had such feelings. The other problem is money. TV commercials and newspaper advertisements try to draw us into downloading different kinds of games and music for mobile phones that we hardly ever need. And of course they charge significant amounts of money for those services. It may not be a problem for those who are familiar with all this stuff but certain groups of people including children and old people tend to misunderstand those advertisements and waste their money for nothing as a result.

And what about the times when technology was much simpler? Some say that life was better back then. One didn’t have to worry about paying his/her Internet bills or figuring out the way this brand new smartphone works. You could just enjoy your life! Not so true, as far as I am considered. Of course modern technology creates us new problems and makes our lives a little more complicated, but the advantages it brings are just way more significant, in my opinion. Take John Rockefeller. He is considered to be the richest man ever lived. But back in the 19th century he couldn’t enjoy things like planes, instant communications, electricity and just many other little things that make our lives much more convenient. So most of the scientists agree that actually a modern middle-class person is richer than Rockefeller was because he/she has a unique opportunity to use all the technological innovations of the 21 century, the opportunity Rockefeller had never had. But we should always know the limits of this use. I guess it’s a great thing that we live during such an era of technological advance and provided we don’t get addicted to it we have all the chances to make it work for us.

The Influence of Modern Technology on Society

Technology is the usage and knowledge of tools, techniques that significantly affect human life and society. Technology is not something people can ignore. New technologies as computers, internet, mobile phones, pagers, laptops, really create a more advanced and convenient society for us all to live in. Making impossible things possible are similar features of the change which previous people experienced by social change, like shifting from a hunting society to an agricultural society. There are many people that can’t see themselves without the new tools of the 21st century. New technologies have had an impact on the environment and on the society.

Due to science development which has evolved rapidly in the recent years, the environment and the society was injured in several ways and in different areas. The daily life of a man has changed into a life which we can say that is controlled by new technologies. For example, many specialized machines that make work easier but which affects the earth have been introduced in agriculture, and why not, because it is a fruit of work. With the help of new technologies various chemical fertilizers have been found too. After using them, men are affected by consuming the products and the earth becomes “artificial” because it loses its natural characteristics. New technologies have had a fairly strong impact on domestic life. Besides the positive effects, for example fast food when we generally achieve something in a shorter period of time, we also find negative effects. Is it possible that robots keep the food so healthy and full of vitamins? Or, is it possible that food kept in refrigerators remains intact? NO! Women’s life is robotized because they trust the new inventions. Family life is in danger since its members are surrounded by radiation. Another affected area is that of communications. Few are those who believe that there is a danger in the evolution of these things. And there are also few people who see the negative side of them. In my opinion, new technology greatly affected the communicative field. With more conviction I can say that people who lived 100 years ago lived more and they went miles down to communicate with each other than people nowadays who sit on the chair and do exercises just typing with their fingers. Speaking about mobile phones, well, let’s face it … we are attacked with radiation and different kinds of cancer and we ask ourselves “what’s going on”?
Modern technology is forever changing and it practically affected all spheres of life. Computers are used everywhere, mobile phones, laptops and other communication devices are today taken for granted. Huge changes have occurred in medicine. Without the improvement of medical instruments and machines, many people would have lost their lives. We can also clone medicine, cells to help fight bacteria and other diseases. School also pictures technology. A computer is a vital medium in learning in any course, field or career. Overall technology has created many advantages and disadvantages. It is my personal opinion that the benefits outweigh the drawbacks and life wasn’t better when technologies were simpler. Due to the modern technologies that appear, the world become more and more efficient, time conscious and almost machine like. Due to retinal implant blind people can see, due to computers we can play bills, search a job, read newspapers, write papers and interact with new people. The wonder of new technologies is the Internet and mobile phones. They’ve become common and popular and allow people to connect to others across distance and boundaries.

The Influence of Technology On Humanity

by Jay Deragon on 01/04/2011

Humanity is defined as the quality or condition of being human, human nature.  Human nature is the concept that there is a set of inherent distinguishing characteristics, including ways of thinking, feeling and acting, which all humans tend to have.

In an age where technology surrounds and influences humanity one must consider whether technology is changing how we think, feel and act. Is technology influencing humanity or is humanity influencing technology?

The questions of what ultimately influences human behavior and how the causation works, and whether technology is the influence or is humanity  the influence over technology are important questions for all of society.

The Significance of Social

Social technology is permeating everything in our lives. It seems that every medium of media has integrated social into the message. The Facebook craze has pulled over 500 million people into use of social technology for multiple purposes. Humanity is experiencing connectivity to the human network like never before in history.

The influence of technology on humanity is affecting all market sectors whether private or public, on-line and off line. The intersection of technology and the human network is disrupting old business models, organizational theories and beliefs systems founded in old knowledge. The significance of these disruptions and the relative meaning is a moving curve of comprehension. What we see on the surface is merely attempts to create short term results using old belief systems and business models. What lies underneath is a societal shift in beliefs as humanity strives to create meaning and significance from the emerging changes.

Umair Haque writes: Social is significance. The real promise of social tools is societal, not just relational; is significance, not just attention. You’ve got to get the first right before you tackle the second — and that means not just investing in “gamification,” a Twitter account, or a Facebook group. It means thinking more carefully how to utilize those tools to get a tiny bit (or a heckuva lot) more significant, and starting to mean something in enduring terms. The deepest test of a 21st century business isn’t just whether it glitters, but whether it can create thick value, that endures, benefits, and multiplies: whether it matters.

The Mazeway Re-synthesis

Humanity has many belief systems which influence the many groups within the human network. Our individual beliefs system form around collective belief systems influenced by society and by media. Could it be that social technology is enabling the human network to create a new belief system?

When a small group of people experience a change of belief system, and if they persuade others to share it, they become new prophets of change, if they fail to persuade others, they are discounted and labeled by society. Many new belief systems are incompatible with the old, and results in small crowds and followers going to a new “promised land”. This accelerates the process of colonizing vacant territory, and therefore both the capacity to develop a new belief system, and the capacity to be persuaded to switch to the belief system of the prophets of change, becomes a mazeway resynthesis of beliefs.

Mazeway resynthesis’ is the change in belief systems that occurs from prophets of change, the mazeway being to the individual what culture is to society, so that the prophet awakes to a new reality which he or she then tries to impart to followers; if successful, the prophet becomes the leader of a new movement; otherwise, he or she is alienated from the network of people clinging onto the old belief system. Sound familiar? Those social media preachers within and outside the traditional organization are the prophets of change attempting to create a mazeway resynthesis with those who believe in the meaning and significance that social represents.

Prophets of Ideas

Ideas represent the presentation of new knowledge that emerges from the creativity of the human network. Because of the connectivity afforded to the human network meaningful and significant ideas are emerging every day. The meaningful and significant ideas are the ones which create thick value that endures, benefits, and multiplies productivity of the human network.

The Social Overton Window is a means of identifying which ideas define the range of acceptance people’s ideas and media fall into. Media is used to persuade or educate the marketplace so that the window of behavior either “moves” or expands to encompass them. Opponents of change reject ideas that represent significant change in how humanity thinks,  feels and acts.

While the influence of technology on humanity always has been and always will be significant the real influence on society is what humanity does with the technology to create meaningful value for all humanity. This is also true for any individual or organization using ‘social technology for any purpose.

Modern Technology And Its Influence To My Life

i think life is impossible without cell phones and laptops! this phrase sounds shocking but reality is reality. some people cant live without modern technology like cell phones.
everybody knows what is modern technology. modern technology is a technology created or invented to help us do works and make our life easier. i think we should perfectly understand that modern technology can make our life more convenient and safes a great deal of our time.
we become lazy because of modern technologies like cell phones, washing machine, televisions, and others. people used to wash their dirty clothes using hands, but now they just have to put their dirty clothes inti the washing machine and press some buttons.
as we know. modern technologies, create dinancial problems ,too. because most of the modern technologies are too expensive to buy.
in my opinion, since the industrial revolution. people are becoming more and more depending on modern technologies. we become impatient if it takesmore than a few seconds to download a copy of the morning newspaper and we also expect people to answer their phones wherever and whenever we call them.
modern technology like cell phones have disadvantages on us (teenagers). for example, we become addicted to our cell phones. it is funny to see how modern technology has made our world easier yet more complex at a same time.before, our lives were measured in years, days, and hours. but now, our lives are measured in minutes and seconds. texting, facebook, twitter and all other social media outlets have us mesmerized.
technology affects our mind, work and even lifestyle. actually, technology has many positive aspects but using it the wrong way could be dangerous. technology is a valueable tool, but is somewhat misused by today's society. the main group that has been affected the most by technology these days is teenagers. the two main forms of modern technology affecting us are cell phones and the internet, which have brought major...

The Effects and Influences of Technology on Society and Human Kind

Could progressing technology itself be negatively affecting and disadvantageous to human kind? What effects have technology had on our society?

Take some time and contemplate this notion; that technology itself could be negatively affecting and disadvantageous to human kind. Could such a conception possibly be correct?

Technology, a word with Greek origins, is defined as, “the practical application of knowledge especially in a particular area” by Merriam-Webster’s dictionary. Despite this definition, it is an abstract term lacking a concrete meaning. Technology is a word used to collectively describe or portray the advancements, abilities, creations, undertakings, views, and knowledge of a singular group of persons: we as human-kind.

The history of technology is undoubtedly as old as humanity itself. Primitive forms of technology have been found with almost every archaeological find of ancient human remains. Technology has such far progressed from the mastery of fire by man in times before 1,000,000 BC, to the supercomputers, space stations, rockets, electronics, weapons, and huge metropolises that are the defining aspect of the 21st century AD.

The question that persists however, is, “Is technology in fact harming our society as a whole?” Albeit the fact that this is a remarkably intricate question of sorts, it can be answered with a simple answer. The actuality of this situation remains that technology is by no means detrimental to our society here in the United States, civilization throughout the world, or to the greater humanity of the human race; instead, it is vital to its survival.

Nuclear Technology

To illustrate this point, let us first examine an exceedingly significant technological advance of our time, nuclear technology. Nuclear technology is research that involves the reactions of atomic nuclei. It has many vital applications in modern society, the most prominent of which are nuclear weapons, nuclear medicine, and nuclear power. The most controversial of these is, without a doubt, nuclear weapons.

First created by the United States in 1945 during World War II, they were developed out of the fear that Nazi Germany would first develop them. A weapon of incredible power, a single nuclear weapon has to potential to decimate, level, and destroy an entire city. The first and only times a nuclear weapon has been used are in World War II, when the United States bombed the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki with the “Little Boy” and “Fat Man” bombs, respectively.

The usage of these bombs allowed for the near instantaneous end to the destructive World War II. Although two cities were leveled and many lives were lost, the situation involving the usage of these nuclear weapons is not nearly as negative as one may perceive. Had the bombs not been dropped, Japan would not have surrendered, and it would have without a doubt prolonged the war for months or even years. This would have forced an Allied Forces ground invasion of Japan in an effort to end the war, which would have resulted in the loss of many more people than caused by the deployment of the two nuclear weapons.

When you look at the usage of nuclear technology, you must look at the situation from the viewpoint of human society as a whole, and not from a standpoint of an individual. While the nuclear bombs destroyed two cities and killed many, they ended a horrific World War II and prevented the loss of many other lives. Today, in more modern terms, nuclear weapons play a huge role in our lives. As citizens of the United States, it is common knowledge that we are guaranteed many degrees of freedoms and rights, but have you ever considered who enforces our right to these freedoms in the world?

The military might of the United States is the key to us retaining our democratic freedoms. Being in possession of nuclear weapons is not only a positive thing, it allows for us to be free. By holding an arsenal of nuclear weapons, we have a nuclear deterrent. In this sense, we prevent wars and conflicts from escalating into another World War by instituting world order. By having nuclear technology, we are ensuring the well-being, longevity, and freedoms of the human race.

Internet Technology

Another prominent technological innovation that well represents our society today is the Internet. The Internet is the worldwide, publicly accessible network of interconnected computer networks that transmit data between themselves. It is an extremely large network that consists of countless smaller networks. The World Wide Web is accessible only through this Internet infrastructure which allows us our access to websites, email, file sharing, downloads, and media.

As well as being an important provider for us common citizens who wish to access the World Wide Web, the internet serves a much greater purpose. It allows for the sharing of information almost instantaneously between scholars, researchers, and others. It allows for information to be shared from the United States to China in less than a second. Before the times of the internet, the other alternatives to transmit information were not nearly as efficient or effective. The Internet allows for us to, in some ways make the world smaller.

In the days of today’s stock markets, financial infrastructure, global news organizations, powerful militarizes, strong governments and big corporations, instantaneous communication is an asset we can not afford to lose. The Internet allows for our society in modern day times to interconnect and promote globalization and information sharing.

Medical Technology

Perhaps one of the most vital technological advances in our society today is in the field of human medicine and health sciences. This field deals with the maintenance, prolongment, and restoration of human health through the study, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease and injury. Medicine is an area where knowledge is obtained, then applied to treatment. It has been around at least as far as the beginning of recorded history, perhaps even farther.

Today, modern medicine is practiced within a well-developed framework of health-care infrastructure. Research in the field of medicine has allowed for the development of many new treatments, drugs, medicines, and solutions that have allowed for the dramatic prolongment of the human lifespan. Today, with the influence of medicine, the lifespan of the average human is only increasing. Medicine in today’s world provides the most vital of all services; it ensures the survival of the human race as a whole.

Review

Now, let us review the implications of technology on our civilization here on Earth as a whole. Could the notion of technology possibly have any basis? Simply put, it does not have any credibility of any sort. Technology itself does not signify any concrete object or thing; instead it collectively portrays human kind’s achievements as a whole. Any advancements, abilities, creations, undertakings, views, or knowledge of us as humans are in essence technology.

This definition alone refutes the argument that technology is detrimental. Take for instance the three significant technological advances of the human race covered in this article: nuclear technology, the internet, and medicine. Nuclear technology, an important advancement for our society, creates a world order, protects the inhabitants of the world, and ensures the longevity, freedoms, and well-being of the entire human race.

Also, the internet allows for our society to inter-connect and progress further into enlightenment. Perhaps most important of all, medicine, allows for us to ensure our own survival on this planet. These three technologies well represent technology as a whole, and clearly show that technology is extremely beneficial to our society. Only by advocating and advancing technology, can we as humans, and as humanity, succeed.
