5.The description of my first school
As you become older you realize that there are several essential things and places you always long to come back to. They are your birthplace, your home and the school you went to.
My school was a three-storeyed building. All the children from neighborhood went there because it was a walking distance from their homes. There was a sports ground behind the school and a green lawn with flower-beds in front of it.
The school was built in 1950, but the classrooms were light and spacious. There were 3 large windows in each classroom with flower pots on the window-sills. It was pupils responsibility to water the flowers, and they did it with utmost care. There were maps and portraits, tables and charts on the walls of the classrooms.

Our classroom was on the 3rd floor and its windows faced the school-yard.
Our form was the one at the school who had a form-master, but not a form mistress. He appeared to be a very kind and knowledgeable teacher who spared no time to take us to different places of interest and exhibitions. He taught us Russian and Russian Literature. We respected him very much.
Our lessons began at 8 o’clock in the morning and lasted till one thirty in the afternoon. We had 6 lessons a day. The pupils were often called to the blackboard to do some exercises or to write some sentences. When they made mistakes, other pupils were called out to correct those mistakes or the teacher corrected them himself. After every lesson the teachers gave us some home assignments both written and oral. And at the next lesson they checked them up. At the end of each quarter we got our report cards which our parents signed. At the end of the study year we were promoted to the next form.
When I think about my school I do not remember its
walls and desks; it is my teacher and school-mates that will be always
with me. I am so thankful to our teacher for what they have one for
us.
2. Describe a gadget you own which is important to you. A gadget I own which is important for me is my mobile phone. I have used it for about 2 month. It was my New Year present from my mother, who treats me as an apple of her eyes. Therefore, it is really vital to my life. When I began to learn to use it, I found it quite complicated because it had too many functions. However, thanks to the help of my chum, I could use it proficiently after a short time. I find this piece of electronic equipment useful in many aspects. Firstly, it is tiny and portable. Therefore, I can bring it in my pocket everywhere. Secondly, I can connect to others by making phone calls or leaving messages whenever I want, especially when I am in jeopardy. Therefore, it helps me feel safe and sound when I go out alone. And last but not least, apart from original functions, it also contains other essential extra functions such as taking photographs, which helps me conserve memorable moments with my family and friends. With this mobile phone, I can enjoy my favorite songs or practice my IELTS listening skill. Therefore, I can not only wind down but also enhance my skills. Besides, this mobile phone also has other benefit like surfing websites, recording voice, listening to radio and awaking. In conclusion, it has many helpful functions which help me a lot and make my life more absorbing.
4.A person you have met and who made impression on you.
It’s amazing the amount of people that you see in your life. You walk by hundreds of people per day, assuming you live in a metropolitan area. You share an elevator with at least one person. You go to the picture house and sit with a few dozen co-inhabitants of this planet. You go to a grocery store and see a fellow carnivore. It’s simply astounding to see such an astronomical amount of people. However, most of the time these people don’t intrigue you because they’re all the same, except for one person.
(Name) is
one of the few people who have made a positive impression on me. One
of the few people who can make me laugh, smile, and actually enjoy myself.
I have been clinically depressed for a couple of years in school, because
I didn’t like my appearance as almost all adolescents. I couldn’t
seem to get a positive view of life; except for when I was with (name)
(Name) is my period English teacher. That period is the only period
I look forward to. No other class really interests me. English is was
even my favourite subject; well it was not until I had her as a teacher.
She did simple things that make everyone in the class happy. She always
had a smile on her face and started the day off by saying “Good morning
scholars” and then had a student read the quote and useless fact of
the day and then rewarded the student with a sticker. The best days
are Fridays though when she shows the class Web Finds. Web Finds are
funny or really impressive things found on YouTube or some other website
that students submit to her.
He always ends the week by telling us to “make wise choices.” I
always smiled when she pronounced that. I really enjoy it when a student
from another class walked in and she stated their name and asked for
a round of applause. . She is the person I would consider my female role
model. She is just so nice and so positive and just all around excellent.
Having the chance of a quiz every day after reading to make sure students
are not solely relying on Spark notes, but he does not care if students
use Spark notes to help their overall understanding of the reading.
We determine if we have a quiz when he puts a stick on one of his hands
and then he asks “who’s going to gamble today?” Everyone in the
class is nervous but giddy all at the same time. I cannot really explain
why but everything about him is so great. She has referred to herself
as “fat(Name)” and understood that she was over-weight but she tried
to do something about it. This person had a great influence on the choice
of my future profession. I would like to have the same excellent skills
to get on with school staff and pupils. I want her to hand me my diploma
when I graduate because it is her merit too. I might actually base my
life off of this woman because of the great and positive influence she
has had on my life. I doubt anyone could dislike her .I am sure if the
students took the time to think about what she has done they would truly
admire all of her work.
Describe a competition that you took part in
There are many competitions that I took part in. And a competion I’d like to talk about is a game called “Big game”. In a camping trip to Phan Thiet with my classmates in the university last year, I played this game. It took place at 12pm sharp. There were five teams and each one had about 8 to 10 people. We had to pass seven stations and at each one, there were some requirements for each team to do. These requiments themselves made this game interesting. First, we did something such as using hands to pour the water into the bottle, using mouth to hold a spoon to move a lemon to other members and solving a secret letter at last. After that we moved to other station. It was so funny. We felt very happy to do these with our team. We were closer and knew more about the others. These are also the reasons why I’d like to take part in this game. At that time, my team won the game but that was not the most important. The prize was a package containing a lot of cake and sweet. And we had memories that we never forget.
7. Describe a town or city you like.
London
draws people from all over the world. Some come on business, some come
to study, to work or on holiday. London is naturally a very English
city and it is very cosmopolitan, containing goods, food and entertainment,
as well as people, from many countries of the world.
London has been a capital city for nearly a thousand years, and many
of its ancient buildings still stand. The most famous of these are the
Tower of London (where the Crown Jewels are kept), Westminster Abbey
and St. Paul’s Cathedral, but most visitors also want to see the House
of Parliament, Buckingham Palace and the many magnificent museums.
Once, London was a small Roman town on the north bank of the Thames,
but slowly it grew into one of the world's major cities with more than
seven million people. Fewer people live in the centre now, but the suburbs
are still growing.
Places now in the heart of London once stood in the middle of green
fields. Many small villages, like Hampstead, Chelsea and Mayfair, became
part of London, but they still keep some of their old atmosphere. Different
areas of London seem like different cities. The West End is a rich man's
world of shops, offices and theatres. The old port area is now called
"Docklands". The great ships have gone, and the area is changing
very fast. There are huge new office buildings, and thousands of new
flats and houses.
Some parts of London are changing, too. Some of the poor areas have
become fashionable, and people with money are moving into them.
Like all big cities, London has streets and concrete buildings, but
it also has many big parks, full of trees, flowers and grass. Sit on
the grass (you're allowed to!) in the middle of Hyde Park or Kensington
Gardens, and you will think that you're in the country, miles away.
Many people live outside the centre of London in the suburbs, and they
travel to work in the shops and offices by train, bus or underground.
The trains are full - and expensive - and the roads are crowded with
cars, but every day a million people come from far outside London, even
from the coast, and spend up to four hours travelling every day.
By day, the whole of London is busy. At night, the offices are quiet
and empty, but the West End stays alive, because this is where Londoners
come to enjoy themselves. There are two opera houses here, several concert
halls and many theatres, as well as cinemas, and in nearby Soho the
pubs, restaurants and nightclubs are busy half the night.
Many people think that London is all grey but in fact red is London's
favourite colour. The buses are red, the letterboxes are red and the
mail vans are all bright, bright red. London is at its best when people
are celebrating. Then the flags, the soldiers' uniforms, the cheering
crowds and the horses and carriages all sparkle in the sunshine - if
it's not raining, of course!
Describe a party that you enjoyed
The party that I enjoyed very much was my 18th birthday. It was taken three months ago. My parents held this party for me at my home and I invited all my cronies to attend. To start the party, I blew out the candles on the birthday cake while everyone was singing the song Happy Birthday. After that, they gave some gifts, cards and best wishes to me. We ate a lot of delicious food and beverage. During the party, we played many funny games and this was a reason which made me like the party very much. One of the games that I won called "Finding idioms". I won because I found many strange and good idioms such as dance to another tune, raining cats or dogs, paint the town red, etc. At the end of the party, I opened all gifts and took a lot of photos with my cronies. This party was nothing but fun and games. However, it was beautiful and memorable.
11.Describe a piece of electronic equipment that you find useful.
Nowadays, with the development of the society and the development of technology, people’s lives become more and more convenient at their work as well as at their house. I think television is a piece of electronic equipment that I find very useful in life. It is very convenient and easy to use. You just turn it on and watch everything you want. My parents told me my house had the first television when my parents got married. Recently, we bought a new television because the old TV was out of date. I think TV is useful and convenient electronic equipment because you can watch and learn many things and you do not need to go outside. I think it is really out of the world when you just stay at home, but you can see many countries and many beautiful scenes which you have not to go to there. You can know much news around the world and you can learn about life through discovery channel. Besides that, through TV, I can see many poor people who have to burn the candle at both ends to earn money for their families or for themselves in order to find that I am very happy now. Those are the reasons why I think television is a piece of electronic equipment that I find useful.
I’m going to describe a piece of electronic equipment that I find useful. It is the laptop. I have had it for nearly two years and it was a gift from my parents on my birthday. it’s not difficult at all for me to learn to use it because I just needed to look at the manual and follow the instructions about how to turn it on, turn it off, how to install software and many other things. The most significant thing is that it is portable. And its portability features offer several distinct advantages: first is its productivity. When using a laptop, I don’t have to waste my time. For example, I can manage my email during a long-hour commute by bus or do my homework in the university coffee shop during short break between lectures. Second is its immediacy. When I carry my laptop, it means I have instant access to various information, personal and work files. Immediacy allows better collaboration between students, as a laptop can be flipped open to present a problem or a solution at anytime, anywhere. I think it is really useful because it has everything integrated into the chassis. I am going to be a teacher of English and at school, I can use my laptop to bring texts, sound, and pictures into a classroom. With the laptop and things shown on the projector overhead, I can attract and retain students’ attention. I can speed up the teaching process and make difficult-to-explain ideas straight forward. This means that I can spend more time answering students’ questions and catering for other needs.
When I was admitted into my University, my parents rewarded a laptop for me. I expected this laptop long time ago but my parents said it merely necessary when I studied in university. At first I rummaged about all programs in my laptop to consider them from every angle. My brother is a computer programmer, he told me not to do that but I didn’t obey him. Finally I had to face the music: the laptop was crashed. Fortunately, my brother helped me to solve these problems. The most interesting that I knew how to use most programs thanks to that mistake. The laptop definitely helps me because it makes many tasks so much easier. For example, email is such a useful tool for communication between friends in different places, even in different countries. I can take it with me in anywhere, at anytime. The laptop is such a big notebook because it can not only contain an amount of information but also help us to organize data. Almost laptops in the market now also have wireless Internet so I can find information on the internet or instant access to my favorite website instead of sitting the whole day in front of a PC with the modem at home. The other functions of laptop are writing report, making video call, supporting for presentation, etc. I think the laptop is essential part of my life.
Describe an idea you had for improving something at work or college.
I am studying English to take the IELTS test and I realized that idioms and academic vocabularies are very important in speaking strategies. I had a good idea to use them effectively. In any topic I try to bring idioms and academic words simultaneously into my speech as a game between friends, or turn a location into an ideal place to learn idioms, even I can talk about idioms in anywhere at any time, etc. My crony and I have a book major in idioms and academic words so we prepare our own speech based on a topic and exchange them with each other. We like to talk about American English idioms such as “smell a rat, play it by ear, eating someone, dressed to the teeth, get in someone’s hair, for a song, paint the town red, etc”. Sometimes we play a game “who say as many sentences contain academic words as possible”. But the competition is drawn because both of us can give sentences galore. After a period using this way, not only my speaking skill makes fast progress but also the other skills are improved. I have not understood reading tests completely before because they have academic words galore. I could not speak fluently or express my thoughts because I had a very limited vocabulary. So learning and using academic words as well as idioms help me enlarge my vocabulary. Now speaking and writing and reading are easier for me.
Describe an idea you had for improving something at work or college
I am a student at BU, which is well-known enough to most people. that
is really a feather in my cap. However, its library is not good like
I ised to imagine one in the famous university. When I come to the library,
I think that it is better if something changes. Firstly, I suggest that
university should improve the services in the library. i don't mean
to put them down but the librarians and the staff there are sort of
a cold fish. The second idea I put forward improving is that there should
be more new and abundant supply of books. the reason for this is that
there are old books that have dim pages so it is hard for students to
read them. Thirdly, they ought to turn on air-conditioning system in
order to makes students more comfortable when they read books there.
And last but not least , I see that the fees are higher year in, year
out but there is no change to be better. Some students never come to
the library but they must also pay the fees. I think the university
should rethink the question of the library fee. In conclusion, if the
university can improve these issues about library, they will help students
study better.
Describe a place you have visited which impressed you.
Moscow is the capital of Russian Federation and one of the largest cities in the world. Unofficially Moscow has almost 20 million people. Well at least that is what a taxi driver told me. City not only has large population but covers vast territory. I visited several large cities, but Moscow is different. The best way to reach your destination in the city is by subway. Definitely the best subway system I ever saw. It is really impressive. First of all, subway looks great and Muscovites are obviously taking good care of it. Second, the trains just keep coming. During several days I was in Moscow I never waited for a train more than 30 seconds. I was really surprised to see people running, trying to catch a train. It seems such a meaningless waste of energy. Another ride is arriving in 20 or so seconds. And finally it is cheap. You can buy single ticket or a card with ten tickets. Actually, there are many people in Moscow who arrived from other countries, mostly from Asia, who are struggling to learn Russian. So in Moscow, Russian is the language that different people from different countries and cultures use to communicate with each other. Moscow is truly a cosmopolitan city. I also traveled to Moscow suburbs, or at least I thought these areas were suburbs. I tried to see how people live outside of tourist zones and it doesn't look too bad. I found many large residential buildings with bars, shops and libraries on the ground floor and many newly constructed shopping centers. One of the places you shouldn't miss is Izmaylovo(Измайлово) market on the city's north-east (location).
There you can buy all the Russian souvenirs you want. It is quite a long way from city center Beside Russian souvenirs, that market is a great place to buy international music CDs or movie DVDs or music with six or seven movies, stuff like that, for 2 or 3 Euros. In Russia there is a very liberal understanding of the term "copyright" and it makes life for ordinary people so much easier and cheaper
Another place to buy souvenirs is Old Arbat. It's a street in city center. In my guide book it is said that Old Arbat is a great street flooded with tourists. I guess all the tourists are there because it is written in their guide books that they should be there. When I was there they were reconstructing the street so there was nothing to see. It's just a street with restaurants, several stands where you can buy trinkets and a McDonalds. Also the prices in restaurants and prices for the stuff you buy there are a bit higher than in other places.
Well, the center in where Red Square is. Next to Red Square is Kremlin on one side and GUM on the other. GUM is a fancy shopping center with luxury stores. The other two sides of the square are closed with History museum from the north, and Saint Basil's Cathedral from the south. Lenin Mausoleum is located just under the walls of the Kremlin. But the Kremlin is a different story. It was much bigger than I imagined. To enter it, you need to buy tickets. It takes some time, an hour or so. Some things in Russia just take time. The thing that surprised me was to discover that Red Square is not really that big. This was also one of my misconceptions. Moscow made a great impression on me. Everything in this city is monumental. It is a huge city where all the streets, city squares and parks, streets and many monuments gave a strong feeling of history, dignity and power.
