My Best Friend’s Wedding 

1. Present a summary of the film 

Julianne Potter, a 27-year-old New York restaurant critic. She has a friend, Mike.They are best friends after a failed romance. After a few months apart, Michael tells her he is about to marry Kimberly, daughter of wealthy Red Sox owner Walter Wallace. Julianne is upset that Michael will marry someone so wrong for him, and someone he has known for such a short period of time. She realizes that she is in love with Michael, and heads to Chicago, intent on sabotaging his wedding. Jules hatches a secret plan to get Mike fired form his dream job and pretend Kim's father wanted him fired so Mike would have to work for him and Kim would be able to study. Mike gets fired and decides to call it quits with Kim. Jules sees her opportunity, but feels horrible about betraying her best friend. Jules confesses her feelings to Mike on the day of his wedding. She kisses him and Kim sees it. Julianne finally accepts that she has lost Michael to Kimberly, so she apologizes to her and explains that she kissed Michael unexpectedly, but he didn't kiss her back because he loved Kimberly. Michael marries Kimberly, and Julianne wishes them well

Michael and Jules were old friends. They were very close to each other. Michael was a football analyst. Jules wrote articles and comments about food. Kim was a student, she was beautiful. Her parents were rich. They lived in a wonderful  house.  

3. What kind of pact was made by Michael and Jules? Did they accomplish it? If yes, say in what way; if no, speak about the reasons.

They made up their minds to marry each other unless they got married someone else until they are 28 years old. But Michael meets Kimmy. He wants to marry sooner.. 

4. What was the stunning news Michael told Jules? What did she decide to do?

Michael told Jules about his wedding and she decides to spoil wedding party and  fight off groom. 

5. Describe the meeting at the airport.

Jules was very happy to see Michael. They hugged. But then came Kim. She was glad to meet Michael’s ex-girlfriend.  

6. Dwell upon things undertaken by Julianne to steal Michael back. And describe the reactions of Michael and other relatives-to-be to those things.

Jules wanted to win Michael back, but nobody saw it. Everybody trusted her because she was Michael’s best friend. Jules tried to humiliate Kim. She hadn’t success in it, because Michael loved Kim. 

7. Did Jules succeed in her strivings? Or did she seem to? Was she always disappointed in her failures? How does that describe the girl?

Jules had different feelings. Sometimes she was unsure about doing her stunts. She liked the girl unexpectedly, because she was really a good person and innocent.

9. Present a detailed description of the wedding day. What happened there and why? Was it easy to foresee this reaction?

The wedding day Jules decided to tell her about her feelings. She said that she had loved him all this 9 years. They were alone in the house. Kim saw it. She thought of his betrayal and ran away. Michael started to chase her and Jules started to chase him. Thus we knew that Michael loved Kim.

10. Where was Kim finally found after she had run away? Was there anything peculiar about that place? Why did she come to that exact place?  

11. Speak about the end of the film and your favourite episodes.

The film has happy end. Jules understands her mistakes. But my favourite episode is in the karaoke-bar. It was so funny to hear how Kimmy sings and to watch the reaction of Jules, which is pleasant at the beginning and then turns into disappointed one. 

12. Focus on the following comments:

     a) Julianne never knew what she wanted until she saw it walking out of her life

It usually happens to people that they understand their need when something or somebody is not beside. She thought that Michael would adore her for his whole life and she didn’t expect that he would meet another woman.

     b) As in any romantic comedy, the two most important elements are in place: the couples and the complications.

It is true, because the complications give the unusual plot and make us compassionate to the heroes. Everybody fell in love once and that’s why watching romantic films we feel the same as heroes.

     c) Although My Best Friend's Wedding is intended to be relatively light entertainment, it briefly addresses some interesting, serious issues regarding the nature of friendship, jealousy, and love (real and idealized)

this movie teaches us that the grief of the people you offended and hurt for your own purpose doesn’t give you happiness. And all the bad things you did will return to you.
