Inventions and technology

Throughout the history, inventions have helped people discover new world, build communities, develop resources and enjoy life to the fullest.

An invention is an object, process or technique which displays an element of novelty. Some inventions also represent a radical breakthrough in science or technology which extends the boundaries of human knowledge.

Over time, humanity has invented objects and methods for accomplishing tasks which fulfill some purpose in a new or different manners. Inventors may be inspired to invent through a desire to create something new or better, simple altruism, or for competitive or commercial reasons. An invention may also result from a combination of these motivating factors.

New inventions lead to new technologies, create new jobs, and improve our  quality of life.

I can’t help mentioning different scientists which give us all inventions and with their help our life is full of things without which we can’t imagine ourselves. For example Isaac Newton with his theory of gravitation force, Albert Einstein and his theory of relativity, Thomas Edison-an inventor of the phonograph, Dmitri Mendeleyev- Russian chemist who framed the periodic law in chemistry, and others.

The time has come to speak about technology. Technology is a tern with origins in the Greek “technologia”. The term can either be applied generally or to specific areas: for example construction technology, medical technology or state-of-the-art technology.

The human race’s use of technology began with the conversion of natural resources into simple tools. It helps humanity to broaden their possibilities. But resent technological developments have lessen physical barriers to communication and allowed humans to interact on a global scale. But not all technology has been used for peaceful purposes.

Returning to the meaning of the word, the term is mostly used in three different contexts: when referring to a tool, a technique, the cultural force or a combination of the three. Technology refers to the tools and machines that may be used to solve real-world problems. Tools and machines needn’t be material: virtual technology fall under this definition of technology. The word “technology” can also be used to refer to a collection of techniques.

The distinction between science, engineering and technology is not always clear.

Science is the investigation or study of phenomena, aimed at discovering enduring principles among elements of the phenomenal world by employing formal techniques such as the scientific methods.

Engineering is the gloal-oriented process of designing and building tools and systems to exploit natural phenomena for practical human means, using results and techniques from science.

Technology is often a consequence of science and engineering. In this sense, scientists and engineers may both be considered technologists.
