In London there are a lot of shopping streets where you can enjoy a long shopping trip. There are about 30.000 stores and 26 street markets.
The busy Oxford Street with more than 300 shopping malls is the centre of the “shopping paradise” of London. Selfridges is one of the world’s finest department stores and dominates the west end of the Oxford Street. The shop has six floors offering two exhibition halls and countless services.

  • Liberty

Traditionally known for dressmaking, Liberty is now an all-purpose department store.  It has a likeable, slightly disorganised feel to it like a well-meaning old aunt.  The cosmetics and homeware departments are especially good.  Liberty is well worth a detour just off Regent Street.

  • Selfridges

In-store boutiques run by brand concessions are the main attraction at Selfridges, giving fashionistas unrivalled choice.  The Oxford Street window displays are worth checking out and the store has good themed exhibitions and events.  Good bargains are available during the sales.

  • Harvey Nichols

The home of the so-called “Sloanes” and ladies who lunch…try the 5th Floor Restaurant and Café to catch a glimpse of them!  Built in the 1880s, the store has 8 floors focused on fashion, beauty and homes.  Fashion accessories are a strength.

  • Fortnum & Mason

A great place to stock up on treats and souvenirs, especially food and drink e.g. preserves, chocolates, teas (hundreds of varieties) and much more.  Visiting the store is a delight and it’s unlikely you’ll leave empty-handed.

Fortnum and Mason is famous for its wonderful hampers.

So where in London should you stay to make the most of all the above?  That’s a question we’ll address in part two of this special blog feature.
