by Correspondence.
1. Alexander Petrov is an experienced worker. He works at the laboratory of Research Institute in Moscow. His group designs electrical equipment for fully automatic shops and plants. Still he wants to improve his technical knowledge. That’s why he became an extra-mural student at the Moscow Institute of Radio Engineering and Automation
2. Alexander Petrov is in his last year now. In autumn he will graduate from the Institute. He will become a specialist in the field of automation and cybernetics. He carries out a large number of experiments at the laboratory and gets numerous consultations from professors and teachers of the Institute.
3. Once a year, a twenty days’
examination session takes place. During this period the students attend
lectures on the main topics of the subjects, go in for examinations
and receive lectures on subjects of the next academic year. A great
number of students graduate annually from Correspondence Institute and
become qualified specialists.

Al the Institute.
1. Victor Pavlov is a first year student. He studies at the Polytechnic Institute. In the first year the students study mathematics, physics, chemistry, elements of machines, a foreign language and number of often subjects.
2. On his working days. Victor gets up very early. He lives alone now as his parents work in the Far North and will come back only next summer. After breakfast Victor goes to the Institute by the underground. It takes hi, half an hour to get to the Institute. As a rule the lectures begin at 9 o'clock. Every day he has three lectures or seminars on different subjects.
3. Victor Pavlov’s institute is very large. It is a ten – storied building. About 12,000 students study there. The building of the Institute houses not only lecture-halls but also laboratories and workshops. The institute has seventeen faculties on different specialties: metallurgy, engineering, chemistry, electronics, power plant construction, radio engineering, etc.
4. The academic year begins in September. It lasts ten months and ends in June. There are two terms in the course of the academic year. So students take their examinations twice a year. During the terms students attend lectures, carry out laboratory tests and do practical work. The course of studies lasts five years.
5. From the very first many students starts
independent work in students’ scientific societies. To make a deep
investigation of the problems they study, do collective research, and
develop instruments and apparatuses.
